Recently, I’ve been on a Total War pump, and I love it! A few months prior, I had been putting off trying out Total War pre-workout, and I’m not sure why. Overall, I’ve gotten excellent results, and I can say that it is some decent stuff.
I frequent the gym five to six days a week year-round. So I regularly experiment with a lot of different pre-workouts. I try to determine which ones work best and which ones are best to stay away from.
I’ll break down everything you need to know about the supplement in this Total War pre workout review. From the ingredients to the taste!
Total War Pre Workout Review
Ingredient Breakdown
First off, let’s look at the main ingredients and dosages in one serving of Total War Pre-workout.
Beta-Alanine
Beta-Alanine is a well-researched naturally produced amino acid commonly found in pre-workout supplements. The main function of this ingredient is to optimize and enhance muscle endurance during long periods of exercise.
The recommended dosage by The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) is 4 to 6 grams a day. Total War falls underneath this threshold with only 3.2 grams per serving.
Citrulline Malate
Citrulline Malate is a compound of L-citrulline and malic acid (2:1 ratio). Both of which are acids commonly found in fruits. Citrulline acids promote blood flow and circulation throughout the body. They expand vessel capacities and increase muscle performance.
Citrulline Malate is usually taken in doses of 3 – 6 grams a day. Total War has the maximum amount at 6 grams.
Taurine
Taurine is another amino acid found in many pre-workouts. Studies of taurine show that it is imperative for the functionality and growth of skeletal muscles.
The recommended dosage of taurine is 0.5 – 3 grams a day, which Total War is well within as it is 1 gram per serving.

There are over 20 flavors of Total War pre-workout. Based on various reviews on the web, some of the most popular flavors seem to be Tiger’s Blood, Vice City, Patriot, and Orange Crush.

I have personally tried Tiger’s Blood, Sour Gummy, and Blue Raspberry so far. As for how they taste, here’s what I have to say:
Honestly, I wasn’t all that impressed by the taste of Total War. The Blue Raspberry tasted as you’d expect. But it was a bit too acidic and wasn’t the most pleasant blue-flavored drink I’ve ever had. I liked the coconut cherry flavor of Tiger’s Blood at first. But as the flavor developed in my mouth, I found it had a strange, medicine-like taste.
While they weren’t terrible, I’m certainly not drinking them because of how delicious they are. Furthermore, all three of the pre-workout flavors had a peculiar aftertaste that I couldn’t get used to.
It’s not the best-tasting pre-workout out there. But it’s not the worst. If I had to choose which flavor I liked the best, it would probably be Blue Raspberry. I think Tiger’s Blood (coconut and cherry) was alright, though it tasted mostly like coconut.
If you’re wondering about the Sour Gummy flavor, it wasn’t awful. But I probably won’t be getting that flavor again.
Alternative Option
Total War is a stimulating supplement overall, but it might not be enough for everyone out there.
If you’re one of those hardcore pre-workout junkies who need more to get them through their intense workouts, then I’d recommend trying Gorilla Mode pre-workout.
Not only does it have an increased amount of pure L-citrulline, but it also has creatine, L-tyrosine, and high doses of numerous other stimulating ingredients.
The best flavor for Gorilla Mode is by far Bombsicle.
It tastes exactly like you’re drinking one of those red, white, and blue popsicles without being sickenly sweet. The flavor of cherry and lemon seem to shine through more prominently than the Blue Raspberry, and it’s something I could drink like juice if given the chance.
If your starter pre-workout isn’t working out for you as it used to, and you’re certain you need something extremely potent, then definitely give Gorilla Mode a try. I should warn you that this one isn’t for the faint of heart.

I like Total War pre workout. It’s not weak, nor is it too strong. I’d say it’s a pretty good pre-workout if you’re just starting or looking to step up from your basic C4.
The dosages aren’t as high compared to more stimulating pre-workouts, and it’s the perfect introduction supplement for beginners.
I should also say that it isn’t a terrible choice for veterans who have been using pre-workout for years either. Maybe it’s not your go-to option if you “need” pre-workout to function in your workout, but if you’re like me, you don’t rely on supplements for your lifts/runs.
It’s an excellent way to promote muscle recovery during your workout and push you a little further than you would normally be able to go.

How To Take
It is recommended to take a 1/2 serving for your first time using the pre workout. This is to gauge where your tolerance to the pre workout is. After a couple of times using this pre workout, you can use a full scoop with around 4-6 ounces of water

I should reiterate that while Total War pre-workout doesn’t taste amazing, it works. And it works well. It has almost everything you’d want in a pre-workout, and I have very few complaints about it. Furthermore, the formula and dosages are perfect for beginners and long-time gym rats alike.
I think most others can agree with this Total War pre workout review when I say that Total War is a solid pre-workout. Yes, it’s a bit generic, but it’s generic and done to perfection. You can get plenty of energy and recovery assistance with Total War.
